Applicability
Detroit Diesel Series 60 (S60) engines, model years 2003–2007, using DDEC IV or DDEC V controls, equipped with EGR and VGT systems.
When is the service needed?
Ongoing repairs to emission components and turbo systems can quickly become one of the biggest expenses in keeping a truck on the road. A stuck EGR valve or a failing VGT turbo are behind many of the most frustrating issues — derates, power loss, poor fuel economy and unexpected downtime.
Both systems can be permanently removed through professional ECU reprogramming, cutting out the failure points before they turn into repair bills. Whether you're already dealing with problems or simply want to avoid them down the road, this is a straightforward way to lower long-term maintenance costs and keep the truck running on your schedule.
After the tune, you're no longer dealing with sensor faults, sluggish turbo response or performance loss from heat and carbon buildup — just a more reliable truck that does what it's supposed to.
Legal framework usage of this service
This is ECM tuning (adjustment) service. The result of this service is improvement the performance characteristics of customer’s equipment.
The service may require additional hardware and/or software tools on the Customer side. See “Equipment requirements” section for the details.

Guides & Instructions
Tuning results
- No EGR/VGT — related fault codes
- No derates
- FREE HP upgrade to the maximum manufacturer-approved setting for your engine configuration
- No unrelated parameters will be changed
Required hardware changes after tuning
Failure to complete these steps may result in fault codes, reduced performance, or engine damage.
- Unplug all EGR system sensors
- Replace the VGT turbocharger with a single or wastegate (non-VGT) turbocharger
- Physically block the EGR flow (install block-off plates or equivalent)

Additional Information
It’s basically a software change in the ECU that turns off the EGR system and the VGT control of the Detroit Diesel engine. In simpler terms, you’re getting rid of a couple of systems that tend to cause the most trouble as these engines get older.
This service is meant for Detroit Diesel engines with DDEC IV and DDEC V, from the 2003–2007 range. The idea is pretty straightforward — delete EGR and VGT from the equation on the software side, since those are usually the first things to start causing problems over time.
The engines themselves are solid — that’s not the issue. But EGR and VGT don’t always age gracefully. EGR systems clog up with carbon, and VGT actuators or controls start acting unpredictable. That’s when you begin to notice loss of power, random fault codes, inconsistent boost, and overall rough behavior.
Once those systems are disabled in the ECU, things get a lot simpler. Airflow becomes more stable, the engine runs more consistently, and under load it just feels more predictable. A lot of drivers say the truck feels smoother and less “temperamental” after that.
FREE HP upgrade to the maximum manufacturer-approved setting for your engine configuration.
Key Benefits:
- Cuts down EGR-related carbon buildup and common failures
- Gets rid of most VGT actuator and control issues
- Helps avoid power loss and inconsistent boost
- Simplifies overall engine operation
- More stable behavior under load
