Do I Still Need DEF After an SCR Delete?
DEF Usage After an SCR Delete
If an SCR delete is done correctly, the ECM stops monitoring or controlling the DEF (AdBlue) system, so DEF no longer needs to be refilled. Because the SCR system is turned off in the engine software, DEF no longer gets injected into the exhaust, and the engine no longer requires DEF to perform SCR functions.
In most cases, an unused DEF tank can remain installed. However, the specific details of the configuration depend on the vehicle, engine platform, and any modifications done to the ECM (Engine Control Module) along with the adjustments.
